Seven Locks Flight - Wilts & Berks Canal

Part of the week's work was to put the finishing touches to the
brickwork on Lock Four. Here, John skilfully adds the bull-nose
bricks to the lower wing walls.

Also at lock four, the offside wall was landscaped which meant
calling upon the eternal Seven Locks excavator.

All the clay added behind the wall required puddling, here
Eddie uses the Sheep's foot roller to do just that.

We took a little time out for a tour of other sections of the
canal, some fully restored and some yet to be started.

A very tidy looking lift bridge on one of the restored sections.

At lock two, we began excavating the upper section to find
out the extent of restoration that will be required.

In some places, the walls crumbled before our eyes. Plenty
of brickwork to be done here!

Lock two at the end of the week. We managed to begin to
rebuild some of the brickwork being dismantled in the picture
above, this can be seen in the top left of this picture.

Newborn volunteer Sophie lends a hand with preparing
lasagne for 20 hungry workers.

We made use of a wet afternoon by taking a tour of the
Wadworth Brewery in Devizes. They had even laid on an
appropriately named ale!
